Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Voter apathy is the lack of interest or motivation to participate in the electoral process, and it remains a significant challenge to democratic participation, particularly in rural communities. Borgu LGA in Niger State faces considerable levels of voter apathy, where many eligible voters, especially in rural areas, choose not to engage in elections. This study seeks to examine the factors contributing to voter apathy in Borgu LGA and explore strategies to encourage greater electoral participation.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Voter apathy in Borgu LGA has led to low voter turnout and limited political engagement, hindering the effectiveness of the democratic process. This apathy is often linked to socio-economic challenges, lack of political awareness, and perceived ineffectiveness of the electoral process.
